Sweet, glistening singer/songwriter pop for lovebirds in flight

"What can I compare you to?" sings Deb Talan as The Weepies' sophomore album begins. "My favorite pair of shoes?" This—and a good chunk of the songs on Say I Am You—describes a comfortable romantic relationship as much as it does the band, whose music is gentle and hopeful with hints of melancholy. Talan and her partner Steve Tannen play well-worn (though hardly weary) Sunday-morning songs for the coffee-and-New York Times set. Lazy, fluid and lovely, shimmering guitars snake around the couple's voices, which blend seamlessly whether in harmony or unison.
