Proving once again that irony above all else dictates the currents of history, a major American rock festival is coming to the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation outside of Ford Lauderdale, Florida. Organizers of the Langerado Music Festival announced the move to Big Cypress earlier today, calling the reservation a "dream" venue for the event. Now in its sixth installment, Langerado will run March 6-9 of next year. Participating artists will be announced on Nov. 8, and tickets go on sale one week later.
“The Seminole tribe has been incredibly gracious in allowing us to host Langerado on their land,” festival co-producer Mark Brown said in a press release. “This is one of the last spots in South Florida that hasn’t been paved over, and we feel very lucky and blessed to be able to bring the Langerado fans into this naturally beautiful environment.”
Hopefully the crowd will be just as grateful and go easy on the scenery-trashing that accompanies most outdoor concerts. Big Cypress, after all, is located amidst the Florida Everglades, one of the most fragile ecosystems in America. Can the land handle the thousands of campers that will descend upon the region come March? Well, as long as the tunes are rockin'...
Last year's concert attracted 15,000 fans to Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida. Acts included My Morning Jacket, Girl Talk, The Hold Steady, and headliners Widespread Panic.
