Neil Patrick Harris hints at a possible spin-off movie

| | Comments (0)

Neil Patrick Harris recently hinted in an interview with Ain’t It Cool News that there could be a possible spin-off based on his alter-ego from the Harold and Kumar films.

“Part of me thinks that would be really hilarious just to make up this fictitious back story of my family and that makes me think of Steve Martin in The Jerk,” Harris told AICN. “Then part of me thinks that is just truly jumping the shark, so I don’t know. When you are spinning off a character that’s based on a real person, but not real—I don’t know, it might be too much, but if anyone can write it, they can [referring to writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg].”

He also mentioned that it depends largely on the success of the second installment of Harold and Kumar, set for release April 25. But it seems that the film has already brought its starring actors somewhat into the limelight. Kal Penn has appeared in episodes of House and 24, among other side projects. Additionally, John Cho is slated to co-star as Sulu in the new Star Trek film that comes out May 8, 2009.

“Usually somebody asks, `What are you working on next?' and you tell them the name of the project and they're like, `What is it?' and you're like, `Uh, two guys go to a hamburger place.' They're like, `Yeah, right. Good luck with that.' And this is the first time everyone knows what I'm talking about,” Cho told CNN in a recent interview.

Hopefully this proposed spin-off will lead to the next chapter of Harold and Kumar’s misadventures. And riddle me this, NPH—what could possibly jump the shark more than riding a fluorescent unicorn on screen?
