Modest Mouse schedules post-R.E.M. dates with Brass Band

Writer: Mark Krotov, photo by Chris Anthony
News, Published online on 07 May 2008

Way back in January, we told you that R.E.M. had netted quite a pair of openers for its Accelerate tour. Who were the lucky guests? A little band called The National, which did pretty well in an obscure ranking of the best albums of 2007, and another group of rapscallions who have designated themselves Modest Mouse, and who also happened to do serious damage to that little list we just mentioned.

The latter group has decided that hanging out with R.E.M. is all well and good, but headlining is really where the fun is, which is why Modest Mouse has announced some dates in June and July where the rodent-monikered band will be the center of attention.

Attention might have to be shared, however, because Modest Mouse is taking New Orleans’ famous Dirty Dozen Brass Band along for the ride. The band made a terrific racket on 2007’s We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, and it will surely raise the stakes onstage.
