Beck to release new album this summer

Let's do a quick rundown of a few of Beck's buddies/coworkers: Jack White, Danger Mouse, Radiohead... notice a connecting thread?

Word started spreading on Monday that Beck would be "pulling a Radiohead/Raconteurs/Gnarls Barkley" and dropping some new pollution in the very near future either digitally or corporeally. After a two-day tempest, triggered by a secretly-sourced MTV News Blog, Beck's publicity folk confirmed this morning that Mr. Hansen will release his latest studio album this summer. Whether "this summer" means in the next four-to-six weeks, as MTV reported, remains to be seen.

Perhaps Beck will preview some of the 10 Danger Mouse-produced, possibly scratch-lyricked tracks on the shorty short album (clocking in at barely 30 minutes!) on his summer tour (see dates below) and headlining slot at this year's Austin City Limits Festival.

Beck stars in a "hometown show" at the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 20 with openers MGMT and Spoon; good to know he'll be consorting with utensils again. On Beck's 2006 tour, the fruitful partnership of kitchen mainstays and musicians resulted in the amazing dinner table symphony performances—here's a clip of the band playing "Clap Hands" on Germany's Sarah Kuttner Show:
