Jeremy Fisher Back Porch Spirituals
In 2007, Ontario's Jeremy Fisher gained notice for the home-made claymation music video he made for "Cigarette," the first single off his Wind-Up Records debut, Goodbye Blue Monday. The video (starring an anthropomorphic cigarette) was cute, but hardly as charming as the music itself. Fisher has drawn from a long singer/songwriter tradition, blending personal confessions with pointed social commentary and a do-it- yourself spirit, since the self-release of his 2001 debut, Back Porch Spirituals. Now available in the U.S. for the first time, it's an aptly- titled collection of reflective, twangy tunes touched by harmonica, spoons and Fisher's lively acoustic picking-- an early glimpse at an artist we're still watching.
