Description:
In his review of Dear John, Loney Dear's most recent album,
Paste Managing Editor Nick Marino describes singer Emil Svanängen's
voice as "high and thin as a tightrope." While Svanängen's vocals are
certainly not iconic, when combined with a number of other seemingly
simple instrument lines and backing vocals, the end result is magically
beautiful. Much like his albums, Svanängen's performance at Paste
seemed more like the result of serendipity than concentrated effort.
Whether Svanängen is a musical genius, or just a very lucky musician,
we felt quite fortunate to hear him perform.
