Brendan Benson has had a long and notable solo career spanning 14 years and producing four albums. His most recent record, My Old, Familiar Friend, provides this week’s VIP Exclusive Download.

Brendan Benson’s “A Whole Lot Better” could stand next to any of your favorite 1970s classic rock hits. Its album cut has all of the necessary components: a healthy dose of synth, power chords, in unison clapping, and an effusive organ. Benson’s Live at Paste performance presents a stripped down version of the song that reveals its dexterity and the depth of Benson’s craft.
