DM Stith Thanksgiving Moon

On DM Stith’s debut album, Heavy Ghost, his echoey voice called to mind the churches in which he grew up. And though Stith washed it over with fluid symphonic layers on that first record, on his BMB and Thanksgiving Moon EPs he lets it ring clearly atop metallic jangles, acoustic strums and fuzzy synths. Multiple reconsiderations of the EPs’ title singles, plus covers of Randy Newman, David Byrne and The Ronettes, act as welcome escapes from the bedroom Stith once considered his musical sanctuary. — Christina Lee
