Giant Cloud hails from Neutral Milk Hotel’s hometown of Ruston, La., but don’t expect the bleating horns and fuzzed-out guitars of Elephant 6 wannabes on the five-piece’s Old Books EP. Giant Cloud take their cues from a more contemporary canon of musicians—the spacious reverb of Beach House and Grizzly Bear, a touch of She & Him’s sunny vintage pop. Dual vocalists Julie Odell and Benjamin Jones glide insouciantly toward a climax or two (“Fingernails,” “Old Soul”), but for the most part, Old Books freewheels its way through 26 minutes with an mood of contentedness that’s infectious. — Rachel Bailey
