Gift of Gab Escape 2 Mars

Bay Area MC Gift of Gab’s latest album, Escape 2 Mars, may not actually shoot you into the stars, but you will feel lifted by its floating, swirling jazz beats set aloft by spacey synths. Gift of Gab, born Tim Parker, is best known for his work with duo Blackalicious, but his solo work refocuses the group’s backpacker hip-hop mentalities with his lyrical wordplay, complex rhyme schemes and Aesop Rock-level rapid-fire flow. — Justin Jacobs
