Junior League Band Jelly Roll

The Junior League Band’s Jelly Roll is an ideal album for those late-summer days when you want nothing more than sweet rockabilly relief and blues-country ease. The Washington, D.C. five-piece brings a pop sensibility to rootsy Americana, and with her Georgia-by-way-of-D.C. twang and vocal gymnastics, frontwoman/banjo-queen Lissy Rosemont gives lines like “We can walk tall down low” an intriguing edge. Covers of The Beatles’ “I’ve Got a Feeling” and Leroy Carr’s “How Long” round out the mix, making Jelly Roll an altogether lovely third record and, if you aren’t yet familiar, an ideal introduction to The Junior League Band — Caroline Klibanoff
