Description:Laura Gibson’s February release Beasts of Seasons immediately grabbed the attention of Paste staff, with its intimate and creative instrumentation, paired with haunting lyrics.

Gibson credits much of the character of the album to writing the album while living in a basement apartment beside a cemetery. And while the album may feature plenty contemplation of mortality, Gibson’s in-studio performance at Paste was far from macabre. The Oregon-based singer/songwriter at least kind of asked her audience to help sing along with several of her songs, “Everybody sing really loud and passionately; just kidding. I am not kidding. I am serious.” Most of the Paste staff chose not to sing along to “Nightwatch.” Perhaps that’s why it sounds so lovely!
