In reality, Lucinda Black Bear is the latest project formed by Christian Gibbs (formerly of The Morning Glories) which performs mostly minor folk melodies with creative combinations of cello, violin, and more familiar rock elements such as bass and electric guitar with feedback to spare. Of course, adding a new instrument or two to the standard rock set-up is nothing new. But the band’s use of sound to create rich and haunting sonic atmospheres certainly sets them apart.

During their performance at Paste, Gibbs introduced “Fought the Bear” as the band’s “fight song.” While I doubt the songs will become part of a pre-game ritual for many sports teams, the entire album is certainly a worthy addition to your music collection.
