The Pixies reunite for Coachella Music Festival

Billboard recently reported that legendary post-punk rockers, The Pixies, will reunite for a performance at the fifth Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival (May 1-2) in Indio, Calif. It will be The Pixies first show since they disbanded in 1993.

With their independent approach, artistic integrity and fusion of punk edge and pop melodicism, the group's members—guitarists Black Francis and Joey Santiago, bassist Kim Deal and drummer David Lovering—were hugely influential on the underground alternative music that became known as "grunge" in the early '90s. Nirvana's Kurt Cobain even said once that his band's mega-hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was a Pixies rip-off.

The Pixies most notable songs include "Here Comes Your Man," "Wave of Mutilation" and "Where Is My Mind?," which was featured in the final scene of the film Fight Club.

It's still unknown if all four original members will make it to the Coachella festival, or if the band has considered recording any new material. However, label 4 AD is scheduled to release a new DVD of the band this spring, which will include a complete 1988 live show alongside a documentary, the band's videos and other supplementary material. A new retrospective compilation CD is also in the works.
