The Roots' label, Okayplayer Records, will expand on the band's ability to unearth some of the most unique and diverse musical talent in the country.
A new Okayplayer compilation release is set for this summer and The Roots are planning to select two unsigned artists to appear on it. The submissions, which will be judged by The Roots, must be submitted via the Okayplayer website between Jan. 22 and Feb. 13.
In addition to The Roots, artists already confirmed for the compilation include Skillz, Jean Grae, Madlib, Aceyalone, Little Brother and Dilated Peoples. Roots drummer, "?uestlove" Thompson will be the project's executive producer.
"There is an array of untapped talent out there especially from the people who are members of the Okayplayer.com community," says Thompson. "The Roots have always been a magnet for talented artists. This deal is important to us because we can now provide a vehicle for bringing deserving artists to the forefront."
