Jay Farrar Live Album Available For Download
Label Transmit Sound, in conjunction with its webmaster, Fast Atmosphere, has released Jay Farrar—Live in Seattle for download (www.jayfarrar.net/downloads). It features 15 songs (including a cover of Townes Van Zandt's "White Freightliner Blues") recorded during Farrar's performance at Seattle's Showbox on July 24, 2003.
The download is offered in two formats—MP3 and FLAC. The FLAC files are of a higher quality. But even the MP3's are encoded at a higher bit-rate than most downloads currently available via other websites. Jay Farrar—Live in Seattle features Mark Spencer (Blood Oranges) on bass and guitar and Eric Heywood (Son Volt) on pedal steel and bass.
On June 8, Transmit Sound will also release Farrar's Stone, Steel & Bright Lights. Marking the first live collection of his career, the album features 19 songs taken from the alt.country pioneer's 2003 tour with backing band Canyon, including 2 new originals, 2 covers (Pink Floyd's "Lucifer Sam" & Neil Young's "Like A Hurricane") and 15 selections spanning Farrar's solo releases. A bonus DVD containing footage from Slim's in San Francisco will also be included.
