The Shortlist Organization has announced this year’s nominees for its annual Shortlist Music Prize. A panel of 20 top recording artists, music journalists and filmmakers including Norah Jones, Jack Black, Jim Jarmusch and Robert Smith have selected 73 nominees. The list will be culled down to 10 finalists in late September, and the Prize will be awarded during a multi-artist concert at the Wiltern in Los Angeles on November 10.
The panel, whose purpose is to share their cultural discoveries directly with music fans, has selected a broad range of nominees. Legendary musicians David Bowie, Neil Young and Loretta Lynn were both nominated, along with up-and-coming artists The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Jem and Iron & Wine. Indie labels made a strong mark, with nominations for Wilco, Patty Griffin, A.C. Newman, Juana Molina and The Wrens.
Also nominated are Jem, Belle & Sebastian, Air, Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros, Van Hunt, TV On The Radio, Bob Schneider, Devendra Banhart, Teitur, Dios, Josh Ritter, Snow Patrol, Ryan Adams, Elbow, Franz Ferdinand, Jamie Cullum, PJ Harvey, Juana Molina, Keane, Magnetic Fields and Macy Gray.
