Richie Havens' New Album and Tour Dates

Richie Havens' New Album and Tour Dates

July 20 marked the release of Richie Havens’ 26th album, Grace of the Sun, on his own Stormy Forest record label. Produced by Havens, the album features Groove Armada percussionist Patrick Dawes, Havens' longtime guitarists Walter Parks and Bill Perry, and world musicians Badal Roy (tabla) and Jorge Alfano (shakuhachi, fretless and electric bass). There are six original compositions on the album including the tabla-driven opener “By the Grace of the Sun,” the melodic “When” and the Middle Eastern-flavored instrumental, “Dusk.” Also included are renditions of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” and Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock.”

Richie Havens first emerged from New York City's Greenwich Village folk scene in the early '60s, and in 1969—before an audience of over half a million— delivered his legendary three-hour opening performance at Woodstock.

In support of Grace of the Sun, Richie Havens has embarked on a national tour. The performances will include music from the new album as well as a broad selection of songs from his extensive repertoire.
