Each year, the Texas Commission on the Arts appoints a state musician along with a poet laureate, two-dimensional artist and three-dimensional artist each year. Country-music legend Billy Joe Shaver will reign in 2006.
Shaver is currently touring to support the album Tribute to Billy Joe Shaver: Live, which was released in May, and his autobiography, Honky Tonk Hero, which came out in March. A segment on Shaver’s life aired on 60 Minutes last week. Shaver is also recording a studio album due for release in September.
