Jimmy Buffett to Start New Station with SIRIUS

Jimmy Buffett to Start New Station with SIRIUS

The man best known for the beach-bum anthem “Margaritaville” will now have a wider audience for the previously Internet-only radio station he started in 1998.

Jimmy Buffett and SIRIUS Satellite Radio have made an agreement to present Radio Margaritaville to SIRIUS customers. The 24-hour channel will feature various Buffet-approved music in addition to live Buffett concerts and other programs. It will launch this summer.

"I first listened to SIRIUS' incredible programming in my car and my boat," said Buffett. "We designed Radio Margaritaville after the old pirate radio stations that sat offshore and played what they wanted. When I saw how SIRIUS is changing the way radio is being heard, I welcomed the opportunity for Radio Margaritaville to join them."

Buffett’s station will still be available at radiomargaritaville.com but now, listeners will have the opportunity for greater access (in their cars, boats, etc.) by becoming SIRIUS subscribers. The service will broadcast the channel live regularly from Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant in Orlando, Fla.’s Universal City Walk. Other broadcast locations are expected, including Key West, Jamaica, Cancun, New Orleans and Las Vegas.
