Richard Thompson will release his first acoustic solo album since 1981—and first-ever album of all-original material—on Aug. 9. Front Parlour Ballads includes 13 songs featuring Thompson on vocals, guitars and other instruments.
Thompson has several other projects planned for 2005.
• A live CD and DVD of his 2001 performance at Austin City Limits is currently available from New West Records.
• Richard Thompson Band’s 2003 Live in Providence DVD will be re-released this month,
• A five-disc boxed set of Thompson’s songs, including unreleased material, and his soundtrack to Werner Herzog’s film Grizzly Man will be available this fall.
• 1000 Years of Popular Music, a live DVD/CD of two performances at San Fransisco venue Bimbo’s—with songs ranging from Hank Williams to Britney Spears—will also be available this fall.
Thompson is currently on tour and will continue performing throughout the summer.
