Thirty years after the Americana documentary Heartworn Highways was recorded, HackTone Records and Shout! Factory are releasing a musical companion to the film. The CD of the same name is taking a note from the artists it features and going back to basics. Audio from the original footage consisted of country greats, including Steve Earle and Townes Van Zandt singing with only a mic and some whiskey. With the help of modern technology, this rawness has been remastered and recaptured for release on March 14.
If the bleach-blonde faux-country that's all too pervasive these days doesn’t suit your tastes, Heartworn Highways offers a return to roots, evident here in the track listing:
