New York City will celebrate Earth Day 2006 with the inaugural Green Apple Music & Arts Festival. In conjunction with the nonprofit Earth Day New York, the four-day festival (April 20-23) will feature concerts at 25 NYC music venues, a film festival, EarthFair, various children’s events and the 6th Annual Jammy Awards.
Frank Zappa will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Jammys, which are hosted by Relix magazine and will kick off the festival April 20 at Madison Square Garden.
At each Green Apple show, concert attendees will receive information on environmental issues.
"We want to spread awareness to people who aren't already environmental experts," says Relix president and publisher Steven Bernstein. "We want to make them aware of what they can do in their daily routine that will make a difference to the environment."
The lineup for the festival will be announced in the coming weeks.
