On April 11, the ladies of Japan’s arguably biggest rock band will mark their 25th Anniversary with the U.S. release of Genki Shock! On Oglio Records.
Filled with noisy gems about broccoli, spam e-mail, blue jeans and mournfully displacing a spider by tearing down its web, Genki Shock! is already widely popular in Shonen Knife's native land.
"I often pick up topics for my lyrics from my daily life," says lead singer and guitarist Naoko Yamano. "I’m impressed by the convenience of a rubber band. Everyday is a jewel box for ideas and lyrics. Even if I have hardships, it doesn’t reflect in my songwriting. My policy is 'music should be fun.' Music is entertainment."
Should the stars align, Shonen Knife will be touring the U.S. in the summer of 2006 in support of Genki Shock!
