Jon Stewart, John Roderick Perform For Charity

Beginning in August, a group of musicians, authors and comedians will offer a series of shows to raise money for children’s literacy programs.

Revenge of the Book Eaters, which will make stops in six different cities, is sponsored by nonprofit writing and tutoring center 826NYC and The Bowery Presents, an independent concert promoter.

The event will feature a lineup including Dave Eggers, author of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, best-selling author Sarah Vowell, Jon Stewart and Daily Show regular John Hodgman.

Musicians on the bill include Sufjan Stevens, David Byrne, Ben Gibbard, Aimee Mann, John Roderick of The Long Winters and more.

"I am totally outclassed by everyone else on the bill and so I'll be bringing my one-hundred-percent 'A' game," Roderick told Paste. "If my fellow performers think they can coast through this one on their good looks, money, brains, talent and A-list fame, well, they should know that I am going to play my nasally acoustic indie-rock with real conviction!"

The event, along with its performances, will ultimately strive to determine which is better: words or music?
