Citing complaints lodged by a Mumbai, India-based Christian organization, EMI India has announced that it will remove all copies of Christ Illusion, the latest LP from US-based heavy metal band Slayer, from shelves across the subcontinent.
The Catholic Secular Forum (CSF) released a statement early in October 2006 detailing their condemnation of the album's lyrical content and cover art, citing that it not only insults the Christian relegion, but could also offend Muslims and "secular Indians who have respect for all faiths."
The album's cover image features an artistic rendering of Jesus Christ "with a missing eye and amputated arms," as described my CSF secretary Joseph Dias. The tracks "Skeleton Christ" and "Jihad" have additionally been cited as lyrically offensive.
In addition to all copies of the albums being pulled from stores, EMI India said in a statement that they have no plans to reissue the album at this time.
