Gorillaz Go Bananas With New Merch

Gorillaz, the animated sapien super group from the imaginations of Damon Albarn, Dan Nakamura, Jamie Hewlett and Miho Hatori, is set to release a slew of new promotional merchandise as part of their Demon Days multimedia experience, which began with their 2005 sophomore album of the same name.

The 2-dimensional band will first offer four exclusive EPs over iTunes, starting with the release of DARE on October 24 with Dirty Harry, El Manana and Feel Good Inc. following on November 7, December 5 and December 26. Each EP will contain previously unreleased videos, a digital booklet as well as computer wallpaper, buddy icons and more.

The DVD “Phase Two-Slowboat to Hades,” with a release date on Halloween, compiles music videos, performances, animated speeches and other miscellaneous video from the photogenic apes. The package also includes a bonus CD Rom featuring 16 interactive games, wallpapers, screen savers and hidden Easter Eggs.

Kidrobot’s second line of Gorillaz action figures will take the idiosyncratic primates into the third dimension with vinyl casts of members 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel. The figures’ cost will range from $19.95-$29.95 with releases from October 16 to November 2 based on the three different color lines of the toys.

Finally, the band will branch into publishing with its first official autobiography, “Gorillaz: Rise of the Ogre,” on November 2. Writer Cass Browne assists the virtual musicians in recounting their ascension into animated rockdom from their bizarre childhoods to their recent live performances.
