Legendary rock band Blue Cheer will be touring the East coast, starting with the CMJ Marathon on Nov. 2.
Blue Cheer, described by the late rock critic Lester Bangs as “the first true heavy metal band,” formed in the late 1960s in San Francisco and gained mainstream success with their cover of “Summertime Blues.” They split up in 1971 but reunited in 1979 and toured with bands such as The Yardbirds, Biohazard and Mucky Pup.
The band is currently active and has performed at various shows, including the 2006 Intonation Festival.
