The sixth installment of music from The OC, to be released on Warner Bros. records on December 5th, will continue the mission of OC music producers to introduce relatively obscure music to the show’s decidedly mainstream devotees.
This time around, producers have managed to pack in two times the schooling, with OC Mix 6: Covering Our Tracks featuring not only songs by the brightest stars on the indie horizon, but rather those stars playing the tunes of former next-hottest-things, many of whom have already paid their dues as conspicuously-placed musical guests on the Fox drama.
With Band of Horses covering The New Year’s “The End’s Not Here,” Tally Hall tackling the Killers’ hit “Smile Like You Mean It,” and indie veterans Mates of State revamping the OC theme song and Phantom Planet tune “California,” the mix may even prove interesting to those who usually trust Pitchfork (or, heck, even Paste)—rather than Seth Cohen—for tastemaking.
