It’s good to see directors choosing ultra-indie acts to document their lives, because the last thing the world needs is another film about The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Seriously.
But there is a documentary about Danielson Famile,Danielson: A Family Movie, directed by JL Aronson. It focuses on band leader Daniel Smith’s beginnings with his four siblings and best friend, as well as his friendship with Sufjan Stevens in 2001 when he at times filled in for his siblings who were too busy to tour. Other moments include Smith’s struggle as a solo artist and using his Christian faith in popular culture.
Rick Moody, Steve Albini, Daniel Johnston, David Garland, Alan Sparhawk make cameos.
