Definitive Sneakers Collection To Be Released

The Sneakers only released two EPs during their short lifetime in the late 70s, but they’ve been hailed ever since as one of the most influential bands in American indie rock. Fans and music historians alike are sure to be thrilled, then, about Nonsequitur Of Silence, which presents the band’s previously released works along with 20 unreleased tracks. Set for release on January 30th, 2007, on Collector’s Choice music, Nonsequitur Of Silence was curated by original Sneakers member Chris Stamey. Stamey, Mitch Easter, and Peter Holsapple formed the early core of the band in high school, later adding drummer Will Rigby and bassist Robert Keely to the mix.

Sneakers has been credited for innovating the sonic stylings that came to influence such bands as R.E.M. and the B-52s, as well as the groups eventually formed by each of the original Sneakers members.

Music writer Scott Schinder wrote the liner notes and, in a recent statement, commented, “Beyond its historic significance, the music that Sneakers made during its brief existence stands out as some of the most distinctive and original rock ’n’ roll of its era. The band’s recorded output, technically raw yet remarkably imaginative and accomplished, displays the early stirrings of the sonic invention, melodic craft and lyrical ingenuity that would distinguish the band members’ better-known subsequent work, as well as a streak of playfully twisted humor.”
