Bands usually reserve later slots in their discography for live albums, and rarely tread into that territory as early as a label debut-- but try telling that to the Black Lips, whose first Vice Records release, Los Valentes Del Mundo Nuevo, was recorded live in Tijuana, Mexico, last year.
Showcasing favorite songs from the underground psych-punk outfit’s three previous offerings (released by smaller indie labels Bomp and In the Red) in the frenzied context of one of their notoriously raucous live shows, Los Valentes is scheduled for release on February 20th, 2007.
Check out the Vice-released video “trailer” of the album—frenetically thrashing, half-naked audience members and all— here.
Track list for Los Valentes Del Mundo Nuevo:
1 - M.I.A.
2 - Boomerang
3 - Sea of Blasphemy
4 - Stranger
5 - Not A Problem
6 - Hippy Hippy Hurrah

A proper full-length studio recording is expected to follow sometime later this year. Of course, for a band whose live antics—- including “flying blood, group kissing, sudden nudity, fireworks explosions, and pissing into their [own] mouths”—- are chronicled in detail on their official record label site, “proper” is a relative term.
Till then, the Black Lips will be back on the road again, rocking faces off and spewing their own body fluids all over the following stages:
January:
18 -- Portland, OR, Dante’s
19 -- Seattle, WA, Crocodile Cafe
20 -- Vancouver, BC, Richard’s on Richards Cabaret
21 -- Olympia, WA, To Be Announced
23 -- San Francisco, CA, 12 Galaxies
24 -- Pomona, CA, The Glass House
25 -- San Diego, CA, The Casbah
26 -- Echo Park, CA, Echo
27 -- Los Angeles, CA, Spaceland
29 -- Los Angeles, CA - UCLA
