Checks exchanged in a Dunkin’ Donuts and false identities and “Weird Al.” Sounds like the makings of a perfect video for the man from the Amish paradise.
But a recent scam finds “Weird Al” Yankovic, who has made a career satirizing other artists, going from the spoofer to the spoofee.
Paper Thin Walls reported yesterday on a Poll Star story stating a man posing as Yankovic’s manager accepted a deposit check from an Illinois club owner in a Chicago Dunkin’ Donuts. The club owner, Scott Hulmes and the man who helped broker the deal, Bob McNally, became suspicious and put a stop payment on the check.
Yankovic’s agent, Steve Schenck, said this was just the latest in a number of scam attempts by someone claiming to be Tom Bennett or Tom Porter. He also said the offers that are made to book “Weird Al” for $3,000 to $7,500 are much less than the singer collects “in the real world.”
