Less than a week after the debut of their third full-length, Wincing the Night Away, The Shins have sold nearly 118,000 albums and are at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart.
The band is not only changing the lives of indie kids everywhere (again), but their probably also changing the future of their record label. This is the first time any album in Sub Pop history has ever charted in the top ten or broken 100,000 in the first week. It’s also the first time any Sub Pop band appeared on Saturday Night Live while still under contract.
The band will soon need a double if they are going to keep up with the current publicity tour. So far, they’ve appeared on "The Late Show", MTV's "Subterranean", and the covers of Paste, Magnet, Filter, and Seattle Sound, not to mention the features in Rolling Stone, Blender, Spin and GQ.
Wincing also has also achieved life-changing status among indie crowds in Canada (#2) Australia (#5), Norway (#8), the UK (#9 ) and Sweden (#14).
The band will start their U.S. tour this month, hitting the Midwest and West Coast first. The dates for Spring and Summer on the East Coast and the South are forthcoming.
