Aqua Teen Bomb Force in Boston?

A made-up collective conversation that could’ve actually happened if cities could talk:

Boston: Oh my God, it’s a bomb!!!!!
Boston Authorities: Holy Crap! Shut down all the interstates, subways and rivers! IMMEDIATELY!!!
Everyone else in the country: It’s not a freakin’ bomb, it’s a mooninite, and it’s giving you the finger.

Bomb squads raced across Boston much of the day Wednesday, responding to phone calls reporting suspicious devices scattered in at least 10 different locations throughout the city. WBZTV.com reported that precautionary actions resulted in part of Interstate 93 to be closed, as well as a subway station.

After much investigation, all the “devices” turned out to be an outdoor advertising campaign featuring signs with a series of magnetic lights forming a “mooninite,” a type of character on “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” making an obscene gesture. The program is part of the Adult Swim portion of Turner Broadcasting’s Cartoon Network.

Turner Broadcasting System Chairman and CEO Phil Kent issued a statement apologizing to the city of Boston and saying the appropriate actions had been taken to remove all the devices from the area. The statement is posted in its entirety on the homepage of Adult Swim.

WBZ also reported that the same advertising campaign has been in place for two to three weeks in 10 cities, including Boston. The campaign promotes the Aqua Teen Hunger Force feature-length film coming out March 23.
