KRS-ONE’s new album, Hip-Hop Lives, will be out on May 22nd on KOCH Records.
On the new release, KRS-ONE—aka “the Teacha” aka “Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone”—continues in the political tradition he’s maintained for nearly 20 years as an outspoken hip-hop activist.
The track "Kill A Rapper" questions why rap murders go unresolved by the police and the title track discusses the phenomenon of how hip-hop reinvents itself every year.
The album is produced by Marly Marl, his collaborator since 1986. Like all their work, on Hip-Hop Lives KRS-ONE and Marley Marl aim to preserve hip-hop’s original sound, which they say is constantly threatened by over-commercialized rap and cultural disunity. For this reason, they call their new album a "classic."
In addition to making records, KRS-ONE gives lectures at universities, colleges and other institutions and grassroots organizations. He’s also recently published his third book, The Gospel of Hip-hop. KRS-ONE is also the founder of three activist organizations: Stop The Violence Movement, Human Education Against Lies and the Temple of Hip-hop.
