Paste editor-at-large, Jay Sweet, was invited to appear on “FOX Rocks in the Morning” on FOX 25 in Boston to give a rundown of SXSW as well as his own insider perspective on the music scene.
The first question the news anchor asked him was, “Explain South by Southwest,” to which Sweet replied, “It’s a right of passage” for every musician that’s “hovering between making it and not making it.”
Out of more than 1,200 bands and singer/songwriters that made their way through the festival this year, Sweet mentioned Amy Winehouse’s performance, comparing her to Norah Jones and Corinne Bailey Rae. He also mentioned Boston locals, Apollo Sunshine, calling them road warriors. “They do a lot of gigs, they take every opportunity, no matter how big or how small, and that’s great, that’s what you need to do.”
Sweet will appear on the morning show once a month to discuss music news, bringing the Paste perspective live to Boston. As Sweet said, “If it’s good, we’re going to write about it.” And then he’s going to talk about it.
