Ok, some of us around here don't quite actually remember making mix tapes, though we do think they were a good idea to impress whoever you were trying to impress. Indie songs keep telling us about them as we make our own CDs. As a matter of fact, just yesterday the following phrase was uttered at the office: “I once burned a cassette of…”
But now it appears the indie-labels are getting into this whole compilation CD thing (something the folks at Now That’s What I Call A Bunch of Junk vol. 852 figured would be a good idea years ago) and putting a bunch of your favorite indie bands on one disc. Finally, a compilation that’s a good idea.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Vice Records (home of Bloc Party and The Stills) will release the first volume in a planned series featuring artists like Bright Eyes, Ted Leo and M. Ward. After the first volume, a different label will put out each subsequent disc.
Here’s to hoping these records will have the desired effect of bringing even more listeners to these artists, many of whom have been receiving a growing amount of recognition as of late.
