Avett Brothers Receive Three AMA nominations

The Avett Brothers are three-time nominees for this year’s Americana Music Association awards, pitting them against artists who helped define the genre. Besides “Duo of the Year,” and “New and Emerging Artist of the Year,” the folk rock (or "indie roots", supposedly) band founded by Scott and Seth Avett is pitted against Bob Dylan, Patty Griffin and Lucinda Williams for “Album of the Year.”

Williams and Griffin also received three nominations, and since there are only six categories (two of which they don’t even qualify for), it is safe to understate that the awards have a strong female presence this year.

The Americana Music Association will announce winners on Nov. 1 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. Unlike many award presentations, this one is sandwiched by affordable music showcases and slightly less affordable yet sure-to-be fascinating discussion panels. In other words, there will be more going on than folks patting themselves on their respective backs. Visit the links below for more information on the week’s events.
