Public Enemy’s Chuck D and American Idol’s Randy Jackson are confirmed to share hosting duties at Stax Records’ 50th anniversary reunion benefit concert, organized to raise money for the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. The event will take place at Memphis’ Orpheum Theater on June 22.
So far the lineup includes several artists on the label’s recently released 50th anniversary compilation, such as Booker T and the MGs (featuring Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn), Isaac Hayes and William Bell. Recently revitalized (with Hayes back in its ranks), Stax will also showcase newly-signed acts like Angie Stone and Soulive.
According to its website, the museum-in-need features a “dance floor” exhibit on which visitors are encouraged to get down with “continuous footage of the ultimate 1970s soul music and dance show, ‘Soul Train.’” Next to maybe the Rosetta Stone, this has to be the best museum feature ever.
Tickets range from $25 to $1,002 dollars, depending on whether or not you want to rub elbows at pre- and post-show parties and get a “private celebrity tour” of the museum. The only museum, maybe, where private celebrity tour could equal private celebrity dance party?
