British folk singer Linda Thompson delivers a nicely understated cover of Tom Waits’ “Day After Tomorrow” on her new album Versatile Heart, out August 14 on Rounder Records. The track was recorded live, despite Thompson’s usual debilitating anxiety over singing in public.
"I think it's the best anti-war song since Dylan's 'Masters Of War'" stated Thompson of the tune, originally released on Waits’ Real Gone in 2004.
Like several songs on Versatile Heart, “Day After Tomorrow” features backup from Thompson’s daughter, Kamila. She and brother Teddy made a number of vocal and songwriting contributions to the record.
Adding to the familial folksiness are Rufus Wainwright and his sister, Martha. The former wrote a a song especially for Thompson, titled “Beauty.”
