Jesus, Elvis and Anna Nicole Smith have a few things in common: they’re probably knocking back some merlot with the big guy, and they turn up on Chuck Prophet’s new release Soap and Water. Multiple times.
The album, set for an October 2 release on Yep Roc, features 12 songs recorded in Nashville and Prophet’s hometown of San Francisco. Co-produced by the rocker and Brad Jones (Dolly Parton, Yo La Tengo, Josh Rouse), it’s Prophet’s first effort in three years.
The singer tackles a hodgepodge of genres on Soap and Water, featuring a ballad here and there, a drum machine, a children’s choir and a little bit of country. With so much stimulation in one album—which is only one part of a 20-odd year catalog—we’re going to want a drink, too.
