A needle in the proverbial hay of posthumous releases and tributes, a new book about Elliott Smith will be released in the fall.
Featuring 200 photographs that show unseen sides of his personality (come on, guys, we’ve seen the guy smile), Elliott Smith also contains interviews conducted by author and acclaimed photographer Autumn de Wilde. Alongside the foreword by Beck and Chris Walla appear handwritten lyrics and conversations with Smith’s friends and collaborators.
Also featured is a CD with five songs from Los Angeles shows in 1997, including "Between the Bars," "Angeles" and two covers. A portion of the book’s proceeds will be donated to the Sims Foundation and Outside In.
De Wilde directed Smith’s video for “Son of Sam,” designed the cover for Figure 8 and has worked with artists like Death Cab for Cutie, Spoon and the White Stripes.
New Moon, a double CD of Smith’s recordings between 1994 and 1997, was released in May. The investigation of his 2003 death remains open.
