Joe Pernice strikes book deal for first novel

University of Massachusetts alumnus Joe Pernice of the Pernice Brothers has further justified his Masters in Creative Writing with a brand new book deal. His last literary contribution was the novella Meat is Murder, a Smiths-inspired angst-ridden tale about Catholic school adolescence. Now, Riverhead Books, a division of Penguin, is counting on the Sub Pop/Ashmount Records rocker to churn out a full-on novel, which Pernice says is about one-third completed. According to the Pernice Brothers news blog, “If you ask Joe what the book is about, he sticks his fingers in his ears and sings ‘la la la la la, etc.’”

The blog also suggests the band is, at the very least, attempting to record something new. Ashmont Records released Pernice Brothers' last album, Live A Little, in 2006.
