Musicians Avril Lavigne might rather steal from

Listen, even if a drought did strike the ever-flowing rapids of creativity that surge through Avril Lavigne’s consciousness like the mighty Mississip’, she wouldn’t rip off some ancient late 70’s dinosaurs who sang the theme song for some irrelevant movie called Revenge of the Nerds. Outcasts who don’t sk8? Ew.

Nor would Avril copy someone else whose only international hit came from copying a John Denver song that was copied by Peter, Paul & Mary. She’ll work with the copying copier but not copy them, all right?

No, if Avril was stuck, totally wracking her brain, about how to be derivative in a fresh way, she’d go straight to her real influences, which she’s being really candid about on the upcoming appropriately-titled compilation Influences, available July 17 in Target stores nationwide.

Maybe she’d mix a little Blink 182 nasality with the closed-eyed passion of Goo Goo Dolls. Throw in some exhausting repetition a la Chumbawumba, stir it up with that one Beach Boys ditty that she always hears at Sonic when she’s on a total lemonberry slush binge and oh man, that'd be the freaking JAM.

Avril Lavigne - Influences track list:
1 - Blink 182 - “Anthem Part Two”
2 - The Distillers - “Sing Sing Death House”
3 - Marilyn Manson - “This Is The New *hit”
4 - Alanis Morissette - “All I Really Want”
5 - Goo Goo Dolls - “Iris”
6 - Cranberries - “Dreams”
7 - Chumbawumba - “Tubthumping”
8 - The Archies - “Sugar, Sugar”
9 - The Beach Boys - “I Get Around”
10 - Janis Joplin - “Me And Bobby McGee”
