Radio station seeks top 885 music moments

University of Philadelphia's radio station, WXPN 88.5 FM, is trying to comprehensively rank the 885 "Most Memorable Musical Moments." Unlike VH1 or MTV, where a moment isn’t a Moment until someone bites a pigeon or drives over his chauffeur, WXPN is looking for listener-submitted personal essays, photos and audio/video. That one time you and your buddy climbed to the roof of his apartment building, only to find U2 running sound check for a surprise show? Submit it. Your third grade piano recital? Submit it. Baby’s first illegal download? Submit it.

Okay, maybe not, but you get the gist. Listener submissions will be archived online and voted upon, with the top 100 moments “relived” on air and on the web. It seems that classic, well-known moments are equally eligible for consideration, including the invention of the phonograph, according to WXPN’s latest blog entry. Dang, if we’re gonna go there, can’t Beethoven get some love? What about the moment a St. Bernard was named after him? And how about those wandering minstrel guys? Dudes rocked out in the middle ages and we're still calling every other singer-songwriter a "troubadour."

Schedule:
Share your stuff: Ends August 31
Vote: September 17-30
Tune in to “relive” the moments: October 2-19
