Remix Stephen Kellogg for collaboration contest

Remember when you thought you possessed innate music production skills, back when you owned MTV Music Generator for Playstation? Eight years later, it’s time to dust off those mix-mastering instincts and put them to the test for Indaba Music’s “Studio Access” collaboration contest.

Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers are among the bands who encourage you to fiddle around with their music – basically, you go to the group’s Indaba page and start the “simple process” of adding and remixing individual tracks from the artist’s recording sessions. Simple process! You’ll wonder why your favorite local band can’t seem to get it right.

Joking, obviously -- it sounds like a creative way to pass time. The contest lasts six weeks, beginning July 19, with individual prizes for each band. In the Sixers’ case, if you turn out something interesting-like with guitar and vocal tracks from the band’s single, Father’s Day, you get a backstage pass to whichever Sixers show comes nearest you. Your song probably won’t end up on anyone’s album, but the band will feature it on their MySpace. It’s a better place for your work than a plastic Playstation memory card with the word “OPUS” scrawled across the top.
