Even though it's little over a month away, folks are priming their TiVos for the the upcoming season of Weeds. And even despite the fact that Showtime has been tight-lipped about how the cliffhanger, Mexican stand-off season finale will be resolved, there's been a lot of buzz surrounding the show's theme song, "Little Boxes."
Last season, the show enlisted Paste-favorites Elvis Costello, Jenny Lewis, Death Cab for Cuite, and Regina Spektor to record the song, and this season's lineup has us just as fired up for the next season. (For those of you keeping score, the song was first performed by Malvina Reynolds in 1962.) Highlights include Randy Newman, The Shins, Joan Baez, and junk-yard, experimental, insert-pretentious-adjective-here rockers, Man Man. Other reported acts include Billy Bob Thornton, Kinky, Michael Franti, Angelique Kidjo, Donovan and more.
Stereogum is also reporting that The Silversun Pickups, Linkin Park and Matchbox 20 are also signed on for the next season. Still, we're waiting for Cypress Hill to get in on the action. Come on Showtime, we've all heard what The Hill did to "Son of a Preacher Man." B. Real and company's version of "Little Boxes" would be, well, dope. Make it happen.
