David Duchovny announced Saturday during the Television Critics Association press tour that he will soon receive a script for a sequel to the X-Files movie. Though the last X-Files film came out nearly a decade ago and the series ended in 2002, interest from fans hasn’t waned and Duchovny has been asked about it ever since the television series ended.
“I really am supposed to get the script next week. And I am looking forward to seeing what Chris [Carter] did,” said Duchovny. “Chris is going to direct it. Gillian [Anderson] is on board and I’m on board.”
Though reports first came out in April first that series creator Chris Carter was working with writer Frank Spotnitz on a script, it still seemed unlikely to happen at that time due to comments Duchovny made in the past making it clear that he didn’t wish to create a franchise out of the show. Perhaps his less than stellar career after the series ended (Remember Return to Me? What about Trust the Man? Didn’t think so.) has rekindled Duchovny’s interest in the series.
